Helena College University of Montana

The summer of 2014 marked the inaugural mission for a team of medical practitioners from Helena College to the Brazilian Amazon. The team spent two months aboard a medical boat traveling up the Amazon River through Brazil providing medical care, dental care and reading glasses to indigenous villages. In the span of two months they assisted over 500 villagers, replaced community healthy workers ageing and failing equipment, and trained their guides to take vital signs, apply dental fluoride treatments, and even taught basic triage skills. The team hopes to return annually to continue both their medical and educational work.
